Exterior Touch Up
Now that we gave you some tips on how to de-clutter and polish your indoor living space, we can’t forget the outside of your home! Winter can wreak havoc on the exterior of your home, so it’s important to check that everything is functioning and holding up properly after those long harsh winter months.
Survey for Physical Damage
First and foremost, do a walk around of your home. Make sure that your home has not suffered any actual damage due to high winds or snow fall. It is good to check siding, roofing, soffit/fascia, and your gutters, of course, as these areas are most susceptible to the elements. Don’t worry! If you have LeafGuard gutters they are guaranteed not to be compromised due to ice or snow build up in the winter. That will be one thing to automatically check off your list of things to worry about next spring if you go with LeafGuard! Get it and forget it, that’s how easy it is.
Now that you’ve made sure your home is functional and there is no physical damage, we can move on to polishing your homes exterior appearance. Siding can become very dirty and dingy during the winter. If you don’t want to completely replace or paint your siding, but quickly bring back some life to it, it may be a good idea to rent or use a power washer to rinse dirt and debris from those pieces. You’d be surprised what a difference a little TLC can make for the exterior of your home.
Another thing to check is the appearance of your front door. Is it looking a little scratched up? Has it seen better days? No need to run out and replace it just yet! Simply putting a few coats of paint on can drastically improve the look of your door! If it is scratched or nicked, you can use some wood filler to fill in these areas for an even more seamless, finished product. You can also check that the weather stripping is not cracked and is still functioning properly to maintain the climate desired indoors. You’d be surprised at how much new weather stripping on windows and doors can drastically reduce your energy bill.
Windows and Doors
If you’re feeling generally bored with the exterior of your home but don’t know where to start, why not try adding some trim? You could add trim to your windows and doors to make them appear more multi-dimensional. Also, for windows, adding a few simple shutters can really help complete the overall look of your home making it more finished and polished all the way around.
Since the warm weather is on its way, another easy way to add to the interest of your home is by installing some window boxes. What is homier than some beautiful floral accents? What a perfect way to easily brighten up any area with a little pop of color.
We hope these tips can make your spring cleaning and polishing as easy and efficient as our LeafGuard gutters are. If you’re interested in updating your gutters along with the rest of your home, put us at the top of your list if you want the only NO maintenance, seamless gutters on the market; we hope to make your life as simple as possible, and cut down your to-do list this season and every season after that.
